Johnson signed the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act into effect, preserving selected rivers with remarkable values.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eInitially, eight rivers were chosen, expanding to over 200 rivers in 40 states and Puerto Rico by 2019.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eToday, federal, state agencies, private landowners, and volunteers collaborate to preserve America’s rivers, keeping them free from pollutants and human-made structures.
